Chromatics

Chromatics from Portland Oregon is one of the bands I have been listening to the most since i found them for about 3 years ago. Here is 10 of their tracks that really takes you on a voyage. Chromatics has a perfect blend of beautiful mellodies, darkness, great basslines, cosmic arpreggios and dreamy human and robotic vocals. They are signed to the label Italians Do It Better with a couple of other really good artists as well. I can really recomend Mirage and Glass Candy Johny Jewel from Chromatics is also one of Glass Candys members.

Syntax Error

For some years ago there was a great radio program on the Swedish national radio station P3. It was called Syntax Error and they only played video game music mainly from old games. Since I like the Radio station P3 and think they run some good music programs I dont understand the reason why they decided to close this one down. I miss this show and game music has many fans out there. So bring it back now! Until then here is 31 episodes of the program from 2001. The language spoken by the host Sol is Swedish but he mainly plays music so you can easily enjoy it even if you dont speak the language. Each episode is around 15 minutes with game music at its best.

The 31 Episodes are divided in 5 different ZIP files bacause of the file hosting sites size limitations

TELEX

The Belgian synthpop group Telex was formed in 1978 by Marc Moulin, Dan Lacksman and Michel Moers. According to the group they did European music and it was only produced with electronic instruments. The sound of Telex have many similarities to Kraftwerk but it is often more uptempo and many times has a faster beat. A big trademark for Telex is their joyfull approach to music and many of their tracks has a humorous touch. Definitely one fo my favourite groups.

A nice fan video for their track Raised By Snakes

Indie games

The indie game market is growing faster than ever. Thanks to digital distribution small game developers can reach out with alternative games that makes something more with the medium and brakes the boundaries between computer games and art. I came across two very interesting game developers that I am sure we will hear much about in the future.

The first one is Tale of tales and they have released 3 games so far. The Online game Endless Forest, The horror game The Path losely based on the fairytale Little red riding hood. These two are their big titles and then we have a short little game called The Graveyard. If you want to exprerience something different in gaming and get a glimpse of the cutting edge games. visit their homepage, try the demos and buy the games, they all go for under 10 dollars each. The Path and The Graveyard are both Macintosh and PC compatible. The Endless Forest is just for PC.

The Graveyard

The Endless Forest

The other developer is Broken rules they have created a very special platform game that just have to be experienced. Its called And Yet It Moves and really is something different. From the games homepage you can download the demo or buy the game for under 10 dollars. Its both Macintosh and PC compatible.

Kure Kure Takora

Kure Kure Takora is a red octopus. He uses a type of Ninjitsu where he can transform anything from a dopey iguana to a vacuum cleaner to a guitar. His best-friend is the weak-willed peanut-inspired Chonbo. While he has friends, he seems to have no problems leaving them for dead if he has to make a fast getaway. Like all other characters in the show, Kure Kure is in love with the fickle pink walrus Monro. His greatest fear is being soaked with vinegar and being served as Sudako (pickled octopus).

Country: Japan
Year: 1973 to 1974

Alone In The Dark

There is something special with the Alone In The Dark game series (Part I, II and II that is) The mood the music the storylines. The past will catch up on the future, sooner or later, game developers will search for this atmosphere again.

Here is some screens from Alone In the Dark I. The First game was heavily inspired by the American Horror and Science Fiction writer H.P Lovecrafts novel Call of Cthulhu.
